Banana Bread

‘Banana Bread’ 24” x 36” oil on canvas

Every week our family makes banana bread, as it’s something both kids will eat for breakfast and the 10 slices will fill the week for easy mornings.

The idea for this one has ranged from a cubist-still life, to a cartoony scene, to a mix of the 2. This will probably turn into a series of 3 paintings, exploring all 3 ideas. Banana Bread had been hanging in our bedroom since it’s been back from exhibition at the Long Beach Library, and now it’s once again on exhibition in Manhasset. It’s been missed on the wall and we hope it doesn’t sell.

Here I’ll have some rough ideas, and then reference photos I used to vantage points for my original sketches on the canvas. I will try to further explain the process as we move along.

I think I turned and mirrored this Mondrian for a basic composition when I started thinking about this.

So the idea here is to draw the still life over itself from multiple points of view. Then you combine or ignore the lines and play with the shapes and whatnot.

I don’t know why I don’t have any earlier pictures of between the charcoal drawings and this much paint. I’m sad about that.
